The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (L5 DET), formerly known as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), is an industry standard qualification for those teaching in the post-16 sector. It is based on structures recognised by Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), a government-approved body for the further education and skills sector. Most training centres would expect that you have this qualification when teaching in the FE and HE sectors or working towards it. This qualification also allows you to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status enabling you to become a teacher in state schools in the UK (teaching ages 14+). This level 5 teaching qualification is accredited by UK Ofqual and delivered 100% online as a distance learning programme. Though no prior qualifications or experience are required to start this teaching qualification, you will still need access to learners to meet this course’s practical requirements. This Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training course is designed to be completed online at the pace that suits you. Our Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training course can take as little as 2 months or up to 12 months, depending on your previous experience and dedication to the course. This teaching qualification is delivered through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Our online tutor support is there to facilitate you to achieve your success rate accordingly.
All units within this course are internally assessed by our qualified assessors and externally verified by the awarding organisation. The assessment takes the form of written assignments, detailed guidance for which will be provided by the tutor once you’re enrolled on our online portal. Practical requirements of this course include 100 hours of logged practice in teachers’ training and at least 8 observations (each of one hour), which can be satisfied either through recording your teaching sessions or having your assessor observe you (which will be done virtually via video call).
Successful completion of this qualification enables you to enhance your career profile and apply for QTLS status. It means you can be employed as a state school teacher in the 14+ sector (for GCSE and A-Level students).

You will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence you submit containing five written assignments, teaching observation forms and a teaching log of 100 hours, which demonstrates the achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. Most of the tasks would be attempted through essay style written accounts and reflections of your own teaching practices. Some of the tasks would require submission of relevant work such as study resources that you prepared for your learners, lesson plans, scheme of work, ILPs, etc. Lastly, of course, eight of your teaching sessions of an hour-long each will be observed by your assessor.
