Overview

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, formerly known as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), is an industry standard qualification for those teaching in the post-16 sector. This qualification will assist individuals training to become a teacher. Our level 5 DET qualification is accredited by UK OfQual and delivered 100% online. This course will assist your dual professionalism and upgrade your teaching qualification regardless of your subject expertise – whether you teach music or coach people.

With this teacher training qualification, you can teach in diverse fields such as the Culinary Arts, Engineering, Music Teaching, Performing Arts, Driving Instruction, Hospitality & Catering, NHS training, Personal Services, Teacher’s Training, Freelance Teaching and Training, and many more industries.

Duration and Delivery

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training course is designed to be completed online at the pace that suits you. It can take as little as 2 months or up to 12 months, depending on your previous experience and dedication to the course. This Level 5 DET course is delivered through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) whereby you are provided online tutor support to successfully complete your course.

Assessment and Verification

All units within this DET course are internally assessed by our qualified assessors and externally verified by the awarding organisation. The assessment takes the form of written assignments, detailed guidance for which will be provided by the tutor once you’re enrolled on our VLE. Practical requirements of this course include 100 hours of logged teaching practice and at least 8 observations (one hour each), which can be satisfied either through recording your teaching sessions or having your assessor observe your teaching sessions.

Progression

Successful completion of this qualification enables you to enhance your career profile and apply for QTLS status. It means you can be employed as a state school teacher in the 14+ sector (for GCSE and A-Level students).

  • Practical Requirements

    At least 100 hours of teaching log is required with 8 teaching observations (one hour each) for L5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF).

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence containing five written assignments, 8 teaching observation forms and a teaching log of 100 hours, which demonstrates the achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. Most of the tasks would be attempted through essay style written accounts and reflections of your own teaching practices. Some of the tasks would require submission of relevant work such as study resources that you prepared for your learners, lesson plans, scheme of work, ILPs, etc.

What is Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)?

Diploma in Education and Training (DET) was previously known as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) under the old QCF framework. Apart from the names, both are essentially the same courses.

How many teaching observations are required to complete this course?

For Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, eight teaching observations are required which will be observed by one of our qualified assessors.

How long should each teaching observation be?

Each observation should be at least 60 minutes. If it is shorter than 60 minutes, additional teaching observations would be required so it would be best to have each lesson planned for at least 60 minutes.

I am currently not at work, so cannot arrange for a teaching observation. What should I do?

This should not be a problem. We will wait for you till you find a placement and then, carry out the observations. Meanwhile, you can work on the theoretical part of this course. You can also avail our work placement offer in case you cannot manage finding a placement for yourself.

How many teaching hours need to be logged?

For Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training,100 hours need to be logged.
