From finance to the manufacturing industry, from micro-business to the global conglomerates, the ability to manage, account, and plan for finances are still considered the key driver of growth and ultimate measure of business success.
The goal of the OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business is to provide students with a core understanding of business and accounting in a wider business context, and encourage practical experience with cash flow and budget maintenance, industry-focused skills to manage finances, as well as a solid understanding of business growth.
The qualification is designed to be completed over one academic year of full-time study. However, we accommodate for completely flexible delivery, so that students can schedule their learning around other commitments such as work or family. The qualification is delivered online through our Virtual Learning Environment.
All units within this course are internally verified by our assessors and externally verified by OTHM. This course is criterion-referenced, based on specific learning outcomes. To achieve a “PASS” for a unit, a student must complete the learning outcomes to meet the assessment criteria set by OTHM.
This qualification presents practical skills, knowledge, competences, and capabilities that are comparable in academic terms as being equivalent to Year 1 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree or to a Higher National Certificate (HNC).
This course enables learners to get direct entry into OTHM Level 5 Diplomas, including the Level 5 Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies. As this Diploma is regulated and approved by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulations), Learners can also get direct entry into year 2 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree programmes at the University of Portsmouth.

You should meet the following requirements:
• The student should have a relevant GCE/GCSE or NQF/QCF/RFQ Level 3 Diploma/Award or equivalent qualification.
• The student must be 18 or older at the time of enrollment
• Students over 21 years are also advised to have management experience
Learners are expected to have an English language proficiency of CEFR Level B2, this can be met in any one of the following ways:
• Being a native English language speaker
• Having achieved an IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
• Having done your last two years of schooling in English
• Passing our online English language test
Awarding body fee of £250 is payable by the learner to the awarding organisation within 14 days of starting the course. This will be collected from the learner and passed on to the awarding organisation for registration and certification purposes. The final certification you get is the same, regardless of your route. There are no strict deadlines for submitting individual coursework, allowing you room and flexibility to pace your studies; the only deadline is the overall course duration based on the option you selected above.

The Learner must possess a relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 3 Award/Diploma, or a GCE/GCSE-level or higher qualification, and other appropriate credentials. The student must also have relevant managerial experience if they are over 21.
Learners who successfully complete the Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business have the option to advance academically, including the Level 5 Diploma in Accounting. The Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business is approved and regulated by Ofqual, and graduates are eligible for direct entrance into Year 2 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree programme.

I have over 15 years’ experience in teaching and training. During this time, I have undertaken teacher training, been a lecturer and course supervisor for ICM, and cohort leader and lecturer for HND (BTEC-Pearson). I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support. I really enjoy supporting learners of varying abilities and experience to achieve their best and to become qualified in their chosen field.
